SECTION A - Bourb.Net Info
=====================
A-1) How can I obtain this FAQ?
This FAQ can be obtained by e-mailing BTC@IO.ORG and placing the words "send FAQ" in the subject header.
Another version of this file can be found on the Web site (http://www.monkey-boy.com/BTC).
-------------------------
A-2) What forms does the FAQ come in?
This FAQ comes in is as ASCII text, HTML and MS word version.
------------------------
A-3) What is the Bourb.Net?
The Bourb.Net is an attempt to provide a forum for fans of the band on the Internet. It was started in December of 1993. The
main purpose of the Bourb.Net is to allow fans to have access to information. It is entirely funded by people on the
Net.
The band does not pay for this.
-------------------------
A-4) Does the band read the Net?
Not really. Sometimes they are given printouts of things and they find out about some things that are being spoken of, namely
Kate's haircut thread that left the band thoroughly puzzled.
-------------------------
A-5) How can I find the Bourb.Net?
The Bourb.Net can be found in several forms:
e-mail - btc@io.org
This is not a mailing list. It merely answers questions and specific requests for info.
USENET - alt.music.bourbontc
This newsgroup is dedicated for discussion on the band. Please use it!!!! If it does not appear on your news file you may
have to request it from your news administrator.
World Wide Web - Currently there is a World Wide Web site on my computer at work. You can access it by setting your browser
to http://204.225.233.5 or some browsers can access http://jon.shift.com
---------------------------------
A-5) Why can't I find alt.music.bourbontc?
When alt.music.bourbontc was created it was placed on an USENET "island". This makes it hard for some news servers to carry
it. If alt.music.bourbontc does not appear on your news server request it from your news adminstrator. Steps are being made
to "boost" the newsgroup which should help eliminate the problems we've had with the newsgroup.
-------------------------------
A-6) Who answers the e-mail on BTC@IO.ORG?
I do. I being Jon Lax. While many people address their e-mail to the band, I read it and respond to it. Once in a while Gene
Hardy will respond to messages but besides that no one from the band will actually send you mail.
------------------------------
A-7) Where can I find guitar tablature?
A few people have been asking for guitar tabs for music and I have asked for them but I haven't seen them yet. So the answer
is I'm working on it but if you are a guitar player and want to tab some music for me, I'll post it and try to get it
verified for accuracy by Chris Miller.
------------------------------
SECTION B - Band Info
==================
B-1) Who are the Bourbon Tabernacle Choir?
Chris Brown - vocals, piano, Hammond organ, trombone, clavinet
Kate Fenner - vocals
Dave Wall - vocals, alto sax, piano, drums
Jason Mercer - bass, banjo
Chris Miller - guitar
Gene Hardy - soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass saxophones, musical saw, violin, trumpet
Tom Bona - drums
-------------------------------
B-2) What do they sound like?
Every band hates this question but it has to be said. At their root they are a rock/r&b/funk group. Their music is
essentially rock but it has extreme elements of funk, r&b and gospel. Each member of the band has their own influences from
gospel to jazz to blues to rock. If you like doses of Van Morrison, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder,
P-funk and Little Feat you will probably like the Bourbons
-------------------------------
B-3) Where are they from?
All of the Bourbon Tabernacle Choir hail from Toronto except for Gene Hardy who is from Victoria, B.C. and Tom Bona who is
from Halifax, N.S.
------------------------------
B-4) History
The band originated in Toronto, Ontario in 1985. The original members of the band included Chris Brown, Jason Mercer, Chris
Miller, Kate Fenner and Andrew Whiteman (Whitey). Kate was absent for a couple of years while attending McGill University.
During this time she performed with BTC occasionally, usually only Montreal and vicinity shows and traveled to Toronto to
work on 1993's Superior Cackling Hen. She returned as a full time member in 1991. Dave Wall joined the group in 1988 while
Gene Hardy joined in 1989. The most recent addition to the line up, Tom Bona, joined in the spring of 1995.
Andrew Whiteman left the band in1993 to pursue a solo career.
Gregor Beresford left in 1994 and is currently working with Tom Cochrane.
Past members include:
Howie Beck (drums) 1994-1995
Daniel Barnes (drums & percussion) 1994

Mike Rosenitsch (dancing)
Lydia Wagerer was baptised with real bourbon.
The Show was opened by Miller, Mercer and Perkins performing a blues number entitled RUBBER DUCKY with Miller on vocals.
Mercer then took a seat on the RED COUCH and began playing The SERMON.
During the song Mercer passed the bass off to Curtis.
-----------------------------
B-5) How did they get their name?
According to a CBC Midday interview done at the band house Chris Brown came up with the name from a dream he had. Take this
explanation with a grain of salt. Chris may be being overdramatic.
The name was meant to be used for one show; a lunchtime performance at Lawrence Park Collegate in Toronto. They performed the
only song they knew - an original entitled "The Sermon" - with Andrew Whiteman providing a hellfire & brimstone rant.
-----------------------------
B-6) What is the band house?
The band house is a house in downtown Toronto where the band practices. Currently Chris Brown lives there with Jeremy
Robinson and One-Beat Pete (producer and ex-bass of Big Sugar and Life ) and a guy named Paul. Chris Brown refers to it as
"Grand Central Fucking Station"
-----------------------------
B-6) What is Andrew Whiteman doing?
Andrew Whiteman left the band on 12-31-93 to pursue solo efforts.
He founded the now defunct band, Gunwhalebob, and more recently Andrew recorded an album of poetry and music entitled Fear
of Zen.

B-7) Is Kate single?
No.

--------------------------
C-3) Do they have a record deal?.
Technically no. The band had an agreement with Sony Music Canada to press & distribute Superiour Cackling Hen in Canada. They
have since terminated that agreement and have taken to running the whole show themselves. Yonder Records was set up to deal
with distribution of Bourbon Tabernacle Choir and David Wall albums.
They are just beginning to shop around in the US.
--------------------------------
C-4) What solo albums are available?
Dave Wall - "Lozenge" available through. mail order from Yonder Records
Chris Brown w/ Don't Talk Dance -"Don't Talk Dance" from Warner Bros.
-------------------------------
C-5) Will there be a live album?
There have been rumblings about a live album but nothing has ever been confirmed. At one point I heard talk of a potential
live album on vinyl for mail order only. On the re-release of Sister Anthony there is a live version of "As Right As They
Want to Be". It was recorded at the Phoenix on December 19, 1993. At the end before they fade out, Ani DeFranco and her
drummer Andy Stochanski do a djambe drum jam with Gregor before going into Grow. Unfortunately, the album cuts at the start
of the jam. It was officially Andrew Whiteman's last Toronto show but a surprise Horseshoe gig on December 23 proved to be
his final performance and luckily a tape of the entire show exists thanks to Andrew Zwingenberger.

SECTION D - Live
==============
D-1) Where can I find tour dates?
You can find tour dates on the Net by checking the Web site, e-mailing btc@io.org with the words "send tour dates" in the
subject header or monitor alt.music.canada, alt.music.bourbontc for dates.
There is a telephone hotline number located in NYC.
212-726-8484
--------------------------------
D-2) How can I get tickets?
Tickets are usually available at the door of the show. However, shows tend to sell out, especially Vancouver's Town Pump (who
have a web site) or Commodore Ballroom shows. So get there early. There is no ticket mail order.
Occasionally the band holds ticket contests for people on the Net.
---------------------------------
D-3) What/When are the ticket draws?
The band often gives up a pair of tickets for important shows (New Year's, Town Pump or Commodore shows) to Net folks. A
posting will be made to alt.music.canada and alt.music.bourbontc with instructions. The band has also made a standing offer
to American fans that for any American show a pair of tickets will always be available. These are on a
first-come-first-serve< basis by emailing your name, email and show you would like to attend to BTC@IO.ORG.
---------------------------------
D-4) How can I find setlists?
My next big project is archiving set lists. Look for it soon.
Anyone who can secure a set list from the band on the night of a show is encouraged to post it to btc@io.org or
alt.music.bourbontc.
---------------------------------
D-5) When are the Bourbons coming to Europe?
There have been several plans to tour England and vicinity. The band is very anxious to get over there. There is nothing
concrete yet although a recent distribution offer may help. If anyone has suggestions for venues or other info, an e-mail
messege can be forwarded to the band.
---------------------------------
SECTION E - Taping Info
===================
E-1) Can I tape Bourbons shows?
The band allows taping of their shows from behind the soundboard.
Any problems at the door should be directed to Gene Hardy or Lurch (sound man)
--------------------------------
E-2) Can I plug into the soundboard?
The band's sound man is named Lurch. He has pretty much outlawed board patches because they were becoming a hassle. So mics
only please. Sorry.
Helpful hint: Lurch likes M&M's.
-------------------------------
E-3) Taping rules
All taping must be done behind or beside the soundboard. Please do not ask Lurch for tapes, power supply, patch cords,
adaptors or mics.
If you are taping, come prepared.
No mic stands over 7 ft in bars, 10 ft outdoors.
Anyone caught selling tapes will be tarred and feathered and denied admittance from future shows.
Before you tape your first tape please add all 3 of the band's commercial product to your collection.
---------------------------------
E-5) What tapes are out there?
There are many BTC bootlegs floating around. The earliest tapes I've heard are from The Wetlands shows in NYC 1991, when the
band opened for the Spin Doctors. There are good versions of 12/23/94, 01/27/95, 11/2?/94, 12/10/94, and 12/31/94 around.
